28-Day Challenge 2014: February 15–March 15

As Healthy Eating Specialist for Whole Foods Market, in North Wales, PA, I am hosting a 28-Day Healthy Eating and Fitness Challenge, beginning Saturday, March 15.

The Challenge is FREE to all participants.

Below is our calendar of events. If you would like to register, please email me: seth.pollins@wholefoods.com. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Bounce into Spring with our 28-day Challenge

I’m genuinely excited to invite you to our fourth 28-Day Challenge! With our prior participant’s feedback in mind, we’ve developed a dynamic new program with weekly classes, food and cooking discussions, and fitness sessions.

This year’s “healthy eating pledge” has been designed to generate tangible results:

Eat/Drink:

1) A gently stimulating “morning elixir” every morning
2) A large salad daily
3) At least one large (double-size) serving of steamed green vegetables daily
4) At least one serving of fermented vegetables daily
5) A gently cleansing herbal tea each evening

Sounds easy, right? Just remember: your commitment to this specific pledge is a powerful inducement to change. If you truly commit, you will feel lightened, energized, and primed for the best spring/summer of your life.

Monday, February 17: The Art of Eating

In a light-hearted yet compellingly honest class, I will explore the relationship between food and emotions. While exploring my own story, I will offer sincere and practical advice for cultivating a genuinely nourishing relationship between your body and your food.

Monday, February 24: What We Talk About When We Talk About Poop

The emerging science is now revealing that the our body’s relationship with its microorganisms can profoundly influence our health. As Michael Pollan wrote last year in a fascinating article, Some of My best Friends are Germs:

“To the extent that we are bearers of genetic information, more than 99 percent of it is microbial. And it appears increasingly likely that this ‘second genome,’ as it is sometimes called, exerts an influence on our health as great and possibly even greater than the genes we inherit from our parents.”

Today we will discuss the microbiome as well as a few tips for optimizing your germs!

Monday, March 3: The Art of Not Eating

A “cleanse” or fast can be seen as a gentle break from our everyday habits. It need not be dramatic. One might fast by eating nothing, or eating only one type of food, or simply eliminating a few foods from the diet. A fast can last several days to several weeks. Dr. Weil, the well-known natural medical doctor, has experimented with fasting one day a week as a physical and psychological discipline. During that day, he’ll drink only juice or water.

Today I will discuss my own experience with fasting and cleansing, and why I’ve come to advocate a common-sense approach that can easily be adopted by most adults.

Monday, March 10: The Perfect Diet?

The concept of a “perfect” diet is not homogeneous. Diet is varied and exciting. When we engage with food, we enter a conversation with our body, of course, but also our culture, environment, and emotions. Today you will learn simple, timeless strategies for discovering what foods best suit your physical and emotional needs.

Friday, February 21: 6:15 PM: Discussion on Nutrition & Beauty
@ Barberella Salon

Join me at my favorite local salon for a discussion on how proper nutrition and supplementation can transform your beauty regime. I will share a few favorite “beauty secrets,” including my simple yet profoundly effective yogurt mask recipe, the absolute best “rinse” to clarify your hair, and how a good shower filter can make all the difference in your hair care regime. Afterwards, the stylists at Barberella Salon will be available for FREE hair treatments!
